It’s a week into the new year and a suitable time to reflect on the past and anticipate what lies ahead. It’s also the time of the year we make commitments to ourselves and others, outlining what we aspire to accomplish, alter, or enhance in the new year. These commitments are commonly known as New Year’s resolutions.

A recent survey revealed that for 48% of people, improving their fitness is a primary goal in 2024. However, initiating a fitness regimen at the start of the year might not yield the desired results. Another study found that a substantial number of individuals tend to abandon their gym memberships and fitness objectives within the initial few months of the year.

Most of us start the year with good intentions, but soon give up on our goals. Findings from a Forbes Health/One Poll survey showed that a mere 1% of resolution-makers persist throughout the year, and only 8% manage to hold on for a month. So, what leads us to abandon our goals so quickly?

Several factors contribute to the tendency to abandon our resolutions. A primary reason is the absence of a clear plan or objective, leading to a lack of direction and motivation. Additionally, an overreliance on inconsistent elements like motivation and willpower can also hinder our progress.
